Gujarat Titans (GT) registered a 11-run loss at the hands of Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the fifth game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game played at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 25. PBKS looked disciplined in all departments of the game and got the better of the home side to add a couple of vital points to their profile. Fielding first after winning the toss, Gujarat got a hammering from Punjab’s skipper Shreyas Iyer, who hit an unbeaten 97 off 42. Iyer was joined by Shashank Singh, who went berserk against bowlers in the final over of the innings and scored an unbeaten 44 off just 16.

Chasing the mammoth target, the hosts fell 11 runs short and started their campaign with an unfortunate defeat. After the unsuccess, a cricket fan questioned GT’s decision to keep all-rounder Washington Sundar away from the playing XI. Taking to X, he wrote, “How Sundar sneaks into the best 15 of India but doesn't get a place in any IPL XI when 10 teams exist is a mystery.” His post grabbed the attention after the CEO of Alphabet and Google Sundar Pichai gave his views with a remark. Replying to the post, Pichai wrote, “I have been wondering this too:).”

Gujarat will look to bounce back against MI on March 29

GT will back themselves to play quality cricket against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Ahmedabad on March 29. Gujarat have an upper hand over MI as the former has emerged winner three times on the five occasions they clashed against each other in the distinguished T20 league.

Like GT, Mumbai also kicked off their campaign with a loss after their four-wicket defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Hardik Pandya, who couldn’t feature in MI’s playing XI in the opening game, will be seen leading the team against his former side Gujarat in Ahmedabad.
