After a comprehensive 2-0 win in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home, the Indian cricket team will be playing a three-match Test series in their own den against New Zealand. The Rohit Sharma-led team showcased incredible form at the start of the massive season of Test cricket, and they will be looking forward to getting the better of the Black Caps once again in home conditions, to secure their spot in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) next year.
As far as New Zealand are concerned, they were thumped by Sri Lanka 2-0 in the two-match Test series last month after a washout against Afghanistan in their one-off Test match in Greater Noida, India. With no wins in their three Test appearances in the subcontinent in recent weeks, New Zealand will have to pull their socks up, to have any chance of defeating India in a Test match later this month.
In this article, SportsTiger looks at India’s probable squad versus New Zealand for the three-match Test series.
Batters: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan
Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, didn’t get a big score against Bangladesh in the two-match Test series, but his attacking batting play and captaincy more than made up for it. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were quite consistent in taking down the Bangladesh bowlers in the recently concluded two Tests, playing a key role in two straight wins for India.
Virat Kohli started slowly in the first Test in Chennai against the Bangla Tigers, but he got his rhythm back in the second Test in Kanpur, helping India score quickly in the first innings of the match, to push for a win. Sarfaraz Khan didn’t get a chance to play against the near neighbour in either of the two Tests, but his promising returns at the start of the new domestic season could keep him firmly in the Indian management’s plans for the New Zealand Test series.
