All eyes will be on Hardik Pandya when Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans face each other on Friday evening (6 May). After parting ways with the Mumbai Indians, the Gujarat Titans skipper will play against them for the first time in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). It will be interesting to see how Pandya plays against his ex-team. Meanwhile, for Mumbai, with their playoff hopes crushed all remaining games will now help them test their bench strength. Rohit Sharma will hope for a similar performance as last game where MI defeated RR.
Pitch Report
The Brabourne pitch has been a belter this season. Runs have flowed freely and batters have enjoyed batting. Meanwhile, the bowlers have got a little help. Spinners are getting a bit of help with the pitches tiring and the same is expected in the GT vs MI clash.
Team Analysis
Gujarat Titans:
The table-toppers have not faced many issues in the tournament so far. But in their last game against Punjab Kings, Gujarat saw their batters struggling big time. With Shubman Gill not performing at the helm, GT need to make a call whether to rest him or give him another chance. Although the management will back the opener to come good in their next game, they will also have a hard talk with him. Hardik Pandya also needs to get over his dip in form for GT's own good. The team can't afford their captain to struggle at the business end of the tournament. In the bowling department, Rashid Khan not taking wickets is a big worry for Gujarat.
SportsTiger Playing XI of GT
Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Sai Sudarshan, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Pradeep Sangwan, Lockie Ferguson, Mohammed Shami
Mumbai Indians:
The five-time champions finally registered a win in their ninth league game as they beat RR by five wickets. Rohit Sharma will be a relieved captain after that win. However, Mumbai still have five games to play in this season which they can use for strengthening their core. A big opening partnership is still missing for Mumbai. Both Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan are struggling to get going. Kieron Pollard has also not done what he is known for. The bowling, however, has looked good in the last two games as MI have kept the opposition tied. Now, it is to be seen if they can keep up the performance against Gujarat.
SportsTiger Playing XI of MI
Ishan Kishan (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Kieron Pollard, Hrithik Shokeen, Daniel Sams, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya, Riley Meredith
Match Prediction
Conclusion
Although Mumbai got back to winning ways in their last game, it won't be easy for them to go past Gujarat who have been relentless this season.
