On Saturday, November 23, Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer, who is the captain of Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) T20 tournament, smashed a fantastic hundred against Goa at the Gymkhana Ground in Hyderabad just a day before the IPL 2025 mega auction goes down in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The right-handed batter played quite exceptionally in his innings, to help Mumbai post 250/4 total in their allotted overs before their bowlers restricted Goa to 224/8, helping the team secure a vital 26-run win.
After winning the toss, Deepraj Gaonkar, the captain of Goa, decided to field first, and his decision paid instant dividends as Angkrish Raghuvanshi was dismissed for just six runs in the second over of the Mumbai innings. Following that, captain Shreyas Iyer joined Prithvi Shaw (33 off 22), and they put together a vital second wicket stand of 57 runs in the power play stage, to lay a platform for their team to post a big score on the board.
Shreyas Iyer scored unbeaten 130 runs in 57 balls with 11 fours and 10 sixes
Ajinkya Rahane’s stay at the crease was short lived as he got dismissed for just 13 runs, but still, Shreyas Iyer continued to dominate the proceedings with the bat, stitching a third wicket stand of 58 runs. He went on to keep the momentum going in the innings for Mumbai during a 114-run stand for the fourth wicket with Shams Mulani, who scored 41 runs in 24 balls with four fours and two maximums.
Shreyas Iyer stayed unbeaten at the crease till the end of Mumbai’s innings, scoring 130 runs in 57 balls with 11 fours and 10 maximums, to ensure that his team reached the 250-run milestone. While defending the big total in the SMAT clash, Mumbai bowlers kept chipping away at the wickets throughout the Goa innings, to stop them from gathering momentum with the bat, and threaten to reach the mammoth target.
Suyash Prabhudessai scored 52 runs in 36 balls with nine fours apart from a couple of quick-fire 40s from Ishaan Gadekar and Vikas Singh, but Goa could only reach 224/8 total in their innings as Royston Dias and Suryansh Shedge picked up two wickets each for Mumbai.
