After Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant was handed a one-match ban for breaching the IPL's Code of Conduct for the third time, the Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya became the second player to be given a one-match ban for a similar offence following the joint-record five-time IPL champions' loss against the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday at the Wankhede Stadium.
KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants, on the back of the Player of the Match, Nichola Pooran's onslaught, defeated the Mumbai Indians by 18 runs despite Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir's spectacular half-centuries in the final game of the IPL 2024 for both sides.
After the match, Hardik Pandya was handed a one-match ban and fined ₹30 lakh for his third Code of Conduct breach this season. The IPL media release stated, "As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 30 lakhs and banned from playing the team’s next match." Hardik was penalised (Rs 12 lakh) for the first time in the 33rd game of the IPL 2024 against the Punjab Kings followed by his second slow over-rate offence in the 48th fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants. Hardik's last two slow-over rate offences came against LSG this season, which led him to miss the first game the next season.
"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 12 lakhs or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," the release added.
