Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Harshit Rana has been fined a total of 60 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against SunRisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 23.
The 22-year-old Rana made headlines for his heroic last over against the SunRisers Hyderabad as he successfully defended 13 runs in the last over, picking up two wickets, to help his side win the game by 4 runs. However, his animated send-off to Mayank Agarwal caught the attention of the BCCI, who slapped him with a 60 percent fine.
Rana committed two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He was fined 10 percent and 50 percent of his match fees for the two respective offences. Rana admitted to the two offences and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding.
For the unversed, KKR, batting first, registered a 209-run target as opener Phil Salt scored a half-century while Andre Russell smashed an unbeaten 64-off-25 and Ramandeep Singh smashed 35-off-17. During the chase, Heinrich Klassen played a remarkable knock of 63 runs off 29 balls to narrow down the gap between the target. While the SRH were about to clinch their first victory of the season, Harshit Rana's last-over heroics turned around the fortunes.
