Indian opening batter Shubman Gill will captain the Gujarat Titans after Indian all-arounder Hardik Pandya was traded to the Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. G ill has been a crucial part of the Gujarat-based franchise since its inception in 2022, as he joined through the expansion draft.

The Chandigarh native scored 483 runs in the 2022 season at an average of 34.50 and a 132.33 strike rate, as the Titans won the title in their maiden season. Gill continued his stellar form in the 2023 season as well and won the Orange Cup with his tally of 890 runs at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80.
Talking about Hardik Pandya, the Indian all-rounder had reported differences with the Gujarat Titans' management and wanted to leave the franchise. Hence, before the IPL 2024 retention announcement, reports about Pandya being traded to Mumbai in a cash deal. The trade was eventually complete after all IPL teams announced their retained players for the auction on December 19.
According to Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and IPL gave the formal approval to the Hardik Pandya trade. The deal involves a transfer of cash although the details of the value of the trade are not confirmed. Hardik Pandya's league fee for the year is INR 15 crore.
