The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 577 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 367 Indian and 210 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season. Yuzvendra Chahal, who is one of the sought-after Indian players in the mega auction, has been signed by Punjab Kings for INR 18 Crore.
Yuzvendra Chahal's IPL Career
After being released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Yuzvendra Chahal registered himself for a base price of INR 2 Crore. The organizing committee then placed him in the second set of the six marquee players. The 34-year-old is known for his skillful leg-spin bowling and his ability to deceive batsmen with his flight, turn, and variations.
Chahal started his IPL career in 2011 with Mumbai Indians, but he played only one match in his first three seasons. In 2014, he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for INR 10 Lakh. Over the next eight seasons, he became RCB's top wicket-taker. In 2015, after a strong season, Chahal got a chance to play for India. He had another great season in 2016, taking 23 wickets and helping RCB reach the final. In 2022, Rajasthan Royals bought him for INR 6.5 Crore. Chahal won the Purple Cap that season with 27 wickets and also took a hat-trick. In 2023, he became the all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL history.
Chahal has played 160 IPL matches for three franchises, taking 205 wickets with an economy rate of 7.84. In 2022, he was a key bowler for Rajasthan Royals, helping them reach the final, though they lost to Gujarat Titans.
