As the Indian Premier League (IPL) gears up for its 2025 season, several franchises have strategically appointed legendary cricketers as mentors to bolster their squads. Recently, Delhi Capitals made headlines by bringing in former England cricket legend Kevin Pietersen as their mentor for IPL 2025. Already, multiple teams have either appointed mentors for the upcoming season or they have kept them from previous seasons.
A mentor is a key position in the team, especially in a tournament like IPL. Mentor provides guidance, motivation, and strategic insights to players and coaching staff. The IPL runs for almost two months, and players need mentors to keep them motivated throughout the season. Moreover, the IPL is set to kick off on March 22 with a clash between last year's champions Kolkata Knight Riders and finalist Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, appointed former West Indies and CSK player Dwayne Bravo as their mentor, while their IPL rivals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, have Dinesh Karthik in a mentorship role. Lucknow Super Giants, which made headlines with the highest ever bid in the IPL auction this year, has Zaheer Khan as their mentor for the IPL 2025 season.

Other teams like Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings have yet to decide their mentor for the IPL 2025 season.
