The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling at all possibilities to host the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, the Indian board has announced the schedule of the first 17 days, which includes 21 matches being played across India, reports reveal that the schedule of the second phase is also set to be announced soon.
According to SportsTiger sources, the BCCI is set to announce the schedule of the remainder of IPL 2024 before March 21. If so, the entire schedule of the 2024 edition will be out before the start of IPL 2024, which will see Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai on March 22. It is to be noted that this update comes ahead of date announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. Check the top betting trends on the best betting sites in India and apps.
IPL 2024 to be moved to UAE: Reports
With the BCCI waiting for the announcement of the election dates, reports further add that the officials are mulling to move the second phase to UAE. “The Election Commission of India will announce the election schedule on Saturday at 3 pm. After that, the BCCI will decide whether should it be moved to Dubai. Currently, a few top BCCI officials are in Dubai to explore the possibility of organising the second half of the IPL in Dubai,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by TOI.
However, it comes contradictory to what IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal said. The IPL Chair expressed confidence that BCCI would be able to host the IPL 2024 entirely in India, adding that the condition in the UAE gets hotter now. “Even in 2019, the IPL was played in a home-away format in its entirety despite the General Elections. This time too, once the dates for the elections are out and we have clarity about the dates and the phases for the polls, we can work out the next phase of the IPL,” Dhumal told Sportstar.
“Given the time we have in April and May, it would be very difficult to take this tournament to any other country. If you talk about Dubai, it would be very hot around that time, and other teams have bilateral commitments,” he further added.
