The former Indian all-rounder, Irfan Pathan, commented on the unexpected on-field hug between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, signalling the end to their tumultuous history. The 39-year-old spoke about how Gautam Gambhir, who is the senior of the two, initiated the reconciliation between himself and Virat Kohli.
In the 2023 season of the IPL, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir had a massive heated exchange at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, which also involved Naveen-ul-Haq. Although, just a year later, Kohli and Gambhir were spotted shaking hands, smiling at each other, and sharing a side hug on-field at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, during a strategic timeout when Royal Challengers Bengaluru took on Kolkata Knight Riders.
Irfan Pathan, who has been a teammate of both Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir in the Indian cricket team, shared his thoughts about the incident involving both of them. He was quoted as saying on Star Sports, as per the NDTV, “Gautam Gambhir, the senior guy, actually came forward. Sometimes you cross the line but as soon as that thing has gone past, when you meet in the future, when you meet now, you meet nicely. This is what we saw.”
As far as the IPL 2024 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was concerned, Kolkata Knight Riders bucked the trend of home teams winning in the league. They registered a comprehensive victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets, chasing down the 183-run target with 19 balls to spare.
With two wins in their first two matches of the Indian Premier League season, KKR have reached second place in the points table, behind CSK on NRR.
