The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a directive to centrally contracted players to join their respective state teams for the Ranji Trophy on Monday, February 12. Just a day later, a few reports emerged around Ishan Kishan set to play the DY Patil T20 tournament on his return, skipping the Ranji Trophy last-round match for Jharkhand.
As per Dainik Bhaskar, Ishan Kishan is not going to play the Ranji Trophy match for Jharkhand against Rajasthan from February 16 onwards, at the Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur, due to a lack of preparation. Instead, the 25-year-old is planning to turn up at the DY Patil T20 tournament, which could mark his return to cricket after he had left the Indian cricket team on South Africa tour, complaining of mental fatigue due to constant travelling.
Will Ishan Kishan get removed from BCCI’s central contracts list?
Ever since Ishan Kishan hasn’t participated in Ranji Trophy matches for Jharkhand, rumours have been circulating in regards to the BCCI potentially removing him from the central contract list in response. But, a senior BCCI official rubbished those rumours outright before clarifying that there hasn’t been any discussion around central contracts among the board members as of yet.
“No discussions have taken place as of now regarding central contracts,” said the senior BCCI official to PTI.
Moreover, when asked about Ishan Kishan’s situation in the press conference, the Indian head coach Rahul Dravid spoke about how he needs to play some cricket and come back, and the choice is his. Ishan Kishan was recently spotted practising with Hardik Pandya, who has been recovering from a right ankle injury, in the city of Baroda.
