Indian shooter Divyansh Singh Panwar clinched the gold medal in the men’s 10m Air Rifle event at the ISSF World Cup on Sunday, January 28, in Cairo. Along with finishing on the top of the podium, Panwar set a new world record by scoring 253.7 in the summit stage. Panwar, who hails from Jaipur, Rajasthan, started off his journey by qualifying with the highest score of 632.4. D.D.Sollazzo from Italy, with 251.8 points, and Serbia’s Lazar Kovacevic with 230.6 points finished second and third on the podium, respectively.
Panwar’s gold marked India’s second yellow metal at the ongoing edition of the tournament. Not only this, but India also maintained their table-top position with another top-of-the-podium finish. Till now, the Indian team has secured two gold and two silver medals in the ongoing edition of the competition. Earlier on Saturday, Rhythm Sangwan and Ujjwal Malik won India’s first gold medal in the Air Pistol Mixed Team event.
The Indian duo defeated the Armenian pair of Karapetyan Elmira and Khlghatyan Benik with a score of 17-7, to mark India’s first gold at the global event. Along with them, Arjun Babuta and Sonam Maskar won a silver medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event. They missed the top podium finish by losing the round to the British duo of Mcintosh Seonaid and Bale Dean by a margin of 14-16.
Panwar is a notable name when it comes to men’s 10m Air Rifle . Earlier in 2023, the 22-year-old, along with Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, and Rudrankksh Patil etched their names in history as they shattered the world record in their category. The young Indian shooters won India’s first gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
