In a recent development, the All India Football Federation has terminated the services of Shaji Prabhakaran as the  General Secretary of the Indian Football Federation due to a "breach of trust". The 51-year-old former AIFF general secretary responded to the football federation's decision and revealed that it came as a "shock".

The AIFF said in a press release, "The All India Football Federation hereby announces that the services of Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran have been terminated due to breach of trust with immediate effect as of November 7, 2023."

Responding to the AIFF's claims, Shaji Prabhakaran took to X and wrote, "AIFF's decision to terminate me comes as a shock. We were working as a team. Charging me for 'breach of trust' is a massive allegation. More on this later. I remain a servant of the beautiful game and thank you all who have supported me in my honest effort for Indian football."

AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey took the decision to terminate Shaji's services and told Sportstar, "There was a lot of resentment about his functioning among the members of the AIFF which forced us to terminate his contract."
