In match 56 of IPL 2024, the Delhi Capitals (DC) hosted the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Although both teams entered this fixture on the back of a loss in their respective last matches, it was the Capitals who triumphed over the in-form Royals by a 20-run margin.
After being invited to bat first, the Delhi-based franchise put up 221 runs on the board, courtesy a quick 20-ball 50 from Jake Fraser-McGurk, 65 from Abishek Porel and a crucial 20-ball 41 from Tristan Stubbs. However, in pursuit of the 222-run target, the Royals looked comfortable in the chase at one point, but Sanju Samson’s dismissal turned tables for them.
The crucial wicket of Samson turned out to be the talking point of the match with several slamming the technology and the umpires for their decision, while a few others called DC for cheating. The incident occurred in the 16th over of the RR inning with Shai Hope completing a catch near the boundary rope at long off region.

Although fans were left divided on this crucial wicket, former India cricketer turned commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu also did not step back from expressing his opinions on the dismissal. While speaking to Star Sports, Sidhu said, “The decision that changed the game was Sanju Samson’s dismissal. There could be differences of opinion, but if you look at the side-on angle, it touches the boundary twice. It was pretty clear.”
“Either you don’t use technology, or if you’re using it and the technology is making a mistake, it’s like there’s a fly in milk, and someone asks you to drink it,” Sidhu further added, highlighting on the proper use of technology.
