Michael Chandler, the American MMA fighter, has given his thoughts on the upcoming match inside the octagon against Conor McGregor, calling it a fight that the UFC and the fans want. Chandler is scheduled to take on McGregor in the main event of UFC 303 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on June 30, during the International Fight Week.
The highly anticipated match between Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor has been years in the making after these two fighters got into each other’s faces for the first time during the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) last year. This will also mark the return of Conor McGregor, the multi-division UFC champion inside the octagon after losing to Dustin Poirier in 2021.
In a sit-down interview with the UFC, which was posted on their official X account, Michael Chandler talked about Conor McGregor and the importance of their fight. He said, “Conor McGregor is the biggest combat sports icon of all-time. He really is. He is still currently fighting. The sport is better when Conor is in it. I think him fighting me makes a lot of sense.”
"I think it’s a fight that the UFC wants. It’s a fight that the fans want,” remarked Chandler about his upcoming match against McGregor at UFC 303.
Michael Chandler also spoke about how Conor McGregor must be expecting to beat him next month before stating that “we all want winnable fights.” He concluded by saying, “I think there is a ton of respect between you and I. And we are going to go out there and give the fans what they want. And do staggering pay-per-view numbers.”
