The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 577 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 367 Indian and 210 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season. James Anderson, the 42-year-old international player, who entered the IPL auction for the first time, didn't get picked by franchise and remained unsold.
At 42, he was the senior-most player in IPL, and he entered the auction list after his Test retirement earlier this year. The English swing king is one of the most celebrated international player. The right-arm-fast-medium bowler had created a stir during his time in all formats. The second day of the two-time day extravaganza began with Kane Williamson becoming the first player to go under the hammer. However, the Kiwi veteran was among the names that went unsold in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
James Anderson gets ignored by franchises in accelerated round
The 10 franchises submited a list of 143 players for the accelerated round. The list featured players from number 117 to 557 on the list, but Anderson was not on the list, but nor were star all-rounder Glenn Phillips and former Gujarat Titans star Kane Williamson.
Besides his bowling prowess, Anderson has good experience leading the team. He had a short captaincy stint with England, which helped the team win some matches. Anderson has played 19 T20I matches between 2007-2009 and has 18 wickets in his kitty. However, he has good experience in Test innings. He played 350 innings with an impressive 704 wickets. Although the T20 format would be different, Anderson can still be lethal to the opposite team.
