England veteran pacer James Anderson will hang his boots after the first Test against West Indies at the iconic Lord’s. Anderson, who calls curtain to his elaborated career, has also opened up on his future plans. Although, an update hasn’t come directly from the 41-year-old, the England Managing Director, Rob Key, confirmed that the pacer will join the English coaching set-up.
The 41-year-old will join the side as a fast-bowling consultant when he retires from Test at the Lord’s next week. “After the Lord’s Test, Jimmy will continue in our set-up, and he’ll help a bit more as a mentor. He has got so much to offer English cricket. We don’t want to see that go. When we asked him, he was keen. He is going to have a lot of options. English cricket would be very lucky if he chooses to stay in the game,” Rob Key said.
Aged 41, Anderson became the first pacer and third bowler to complete 700 Test wickets after Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan. Currently, he is playing for Lancashire against Nottinghamshire in the County Championship at Southport.
England to play West Indies in three-match Test series
England will host West Indies in a three-match Test series from July 10 to July 30. While the opening Test of the series will be played from July 10 to 14 at the iconic Lord’s in London, the second Test will be played from July 18 to 22 at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Meanwhile, the third Test will be played from July 26 to 30 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
