World number one ranked tennis player, Italy’s Jannik Sinner reigned supreme at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York as he dominated home favourite, Taylor Fritz to win US Open 2024 title. Sinner, 23, with his straight sets (6-3, 6-4, 7-5) win over Taylor Fritz, claimed his second Grand Slam title of the season.

Fritz, who was in a bid to become the first American man to win a Grand Slam singles title in 21 years, went down the top-seeded in the summit clash which went on for a duration of two hours and 16 minutes. While Fritz was eyeing to be the first American in 21 years after Andy Roddick, who won the US Open in 2003, his counterpart, Sinner joined Flavia Pennetta, who won the women’s singles championship in 2015 as the only Italian singles champions in US Open history.

Tearful Sinner dedicates US Open title to ill aunt

Sinner, who claimed his second Grand Slam title, carried his 11-match winning streak, adding to his Australian Open win earlier this year. Speaking at the post-match on-court interview, Sinner added, “This title for me means so much because the last period of my career was really not easy. There is my team who supports me every day, the people who are close to me. I love tennis. I practice a lot for this kind of stages, but I also realize that off the court there is a life.”

Moreover, the 23-year-old went on to dedicate this title triumph to his seriously ill aunt. The Italian top ranked said, “I would like to dedicate this title to my aunt, because she is really not feeling well, health-wise. I don’t know how much I still have her in my life. It’s so nice that I can share a positive moment still with her. … If there would be the biggest wish, I would wish the best health to everyone, but unfortunately, it’s not possible.”
