The Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue are scheduled to take on South Africa in two-match Test series, starting December 26. While the first Test will be played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion from 26 to 30 December, the second is set to be played at the Newlands in Cape Town.
However, this will be Rohit Sharma’s first assignment after a month long extended break and ODI World Cup final loss against Australia. As he gears up to lead the side in the two-match Test series, the skipper was asked questions around his participation at the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, set to be held in West Indies and the USA.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Rohit was asked if there is any desperation to win the T20 World Cup. Responding to a journalist’s question at the presser, Rohit said, “Desperation is to play cricket, everyone wants to do well and play all the games. Everyone will get their chance….”

However, upon understanding that the media was looking for a confirmation on his captaincy role at the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit after a brief pause further added, “Mujhe pata hai kya bolna chahate ho aap, jawab milega aapko uska (I know what you want to say and you will get to know everything very soon).”
The 36-year-old speaking on eyeing Test series win said, “We have never won a series here and it’ll be a big thing if we do it here. I don’t know whether it’ll be able to take away the pain of World Cup defeat. If we are able to achieve it, then it’ll be a good thing.”
