Former I ndian men's football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has demanded All India Football Federation President Kalyan Chaubey's resignation after Shaji Prabhakaran was dismissed as the general secretary. AIFF sacked Prabhakaran as the secretary general of the national sports body in November 2023 in a decision which seemed out of the blue.

The AIFF announced that Prabhakaran was sacked for breaching trust with immediate effect. Addressing this decision at January 30's executive committee meeting of the AIFF called to discuss the dismissal of Prabhakaran.
Chaubey and treasurer Kipa Ajay should also resign: Bhutia
At this gathering, Bhutia deemed Kalyan to be responsible for the 'current mess' in the administration of Indian football. Then the former Indian forward stated "I told the executive committee members that Kalyan Chaubey and treasurer Kipa Ajay should also resign. Shaji Prabhakaran should not be made the only scapegoat."

All three of them are equally responsible for taking decisions without the approval of the executive committee. All three of them were taking the decisions and if Shaji has to be removed, the president and treasurer should also be removed, " as per PTI.
Indian football is in mess, there is politics in the sport: Bhutia
Further, Bhaichung Bhutia called out the association for making a mess of Indian football and gave examples of the fiasco at the Hangzhou Asian Games. "Indian football is in mess, there is politics in the sport, cutting out each other after little over one year of taking charge. It is not good. The national team has been left in the lurch during the Hangzhou Asian Games as well as in the Asian Cup where there was inadequate training time for the team," Bhutia added.
