World ranked number eight and French Open 2023 finalists, Karolina Muchova on Tuesday announced her withdrawal from the WTA Finals, set to commence from October 29, Sunday. The 27-year-old Czech tennis player, who was set for her maiden appearance at the WTA Finals was forced to pull out with a wrist injury.  

She took to Instagram to announce her decision stating, “I am heartbroken to announce that I will miss my first WTA Finals in Cancun. Together with the team and doctors we tried everything till the last moments to resolve my wrist injury. Unfortunately, the time needed for the recovery is longer that we would’ve hoped for and therefore I had to make this unpleasant decision.”

“I greatly appreciate the support of all the fans. I will do my best to be back in 2024 and get another chance to be part of the @wtafinals”, she added.

The Czech Republic star is ranked eighth in the WTA Singles Rankings. She was last seen playing Coco Gauff at the US Open semifinal where she lost 4-6, 5-7. She had an impressive 2023 season, reaching the final of the clay-court Grand Slam, the French Open in June and Cincinnati Open in August.
