Pakistan batter Babar Azam shocked his fans at midnight on October 2, when he announced his decision to step down as a captain of the Pakistan cricket team. The right-hander said that he wants to focus on his batting, and enjoy time with his family. However, the fans came up with hilarious memes and trolls after the news of Babar Azam stepping down from Pakistan’s white-ball captaincy. However, this is not the first time that Babar has stepped down as captain of Pakistan cricket team.
He took to social media to announce his decision of stepping down as Pakistan captain. He wrote, “Dear Fans, I'm sharing some news with you today. I have decided to resign as captain of the Pakistan men's cricket team, effective as of my notification to the PCB and Team Management last month. It's been an honour to lead this team, but it's time for me to step down and focus on my playing role.”

Babar Azam isn’t looking in great touch with the bat in recent times. On the other hand, Pakistan are also having a tough time in world cricket currently. Under Babar’s captaincy, Pakistan were knocked out of the group stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup and even lost a match against United States during their WC campaign. There were reports coming earlier that Babar Azam must be sacked as captain. However, the opening batter himself decided to step down.
This was the second instance in the last 11 months when Babar Azam quit captaincy. He first decided to step down as captain came after Pakistan’s group exit in the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, he was called to take the charge again after Pakistan suffered a 1-4 loss in the T20I series in New Zealand earlier this year under Shaheen Shah Afridi's captaincy.
