Nitish Rana and Dhruv Shorey, two of Delhi’s most prolific batsman in domestic cricket, have decided to leave the team ahead of the upcoming season. According to sources, both players have formally requested the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play for other states.
The reason behind their decision is not clear, but it is speculated that they are unhappy with the management and selection policies of the DDCA. Both players have been regular members of the Delhi team for several years, and have led the side in different formats.
Shorey, who made his first-class debut in 2015, has scored 3841 runs in 52 matches, including 11 centuries and 16 half-centuries. He was also the top-scorer for Delhi in the last Ranji Trophy season, with 859 runs in 12 innings at an astonishing average of 95.44. Rana, who made his First Class debut in 2015, has amassed 2507 runs in 44 matches, with six hundreds and 11 fifties. He also has 24 FC wickets with his spin bowling.
Both players have also featured in the Indian Premier League (IPL), with Rana playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Shorey for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). While Rana led Kolkata Knight Riders in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, Shorey, on the other hand, did not get a chance to play for CSK.
It remains to be seen which teams will sign Rana and Shorey for the next season, and how their departure will affect Delhi’s performance. The DDCA has not yet issued any official statement on their NOC request.
