Former India cricketer and BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly has issued a clarification on his comments on the RG Kar trainee doctor’s alleged rape and murder case. The former cricketer joined the other celebrities and sports personalities to stand, condemning the heinous crime, and was left devasted on the incident which has reached another level being a father of a daughter himself.
Although Ganguly backed his state West Bengal as one of the safest places in the country, he also added that it would be unfair to judge the entire system “on an isolated incident”. Speaking to a Bengali news channel, Ganguly said, “I don’t think everything should be judged on an isolated incident. There is no room to think that everything or everyone is not safe for this. Such accidents happen all over the world. So it is wrong to think that girls are not safe. Not only in West Bengal, but everywhere in India, women are safe. Where we live is the best place. One should not judge by one incident.”
However, he further added that it is a very unfortunate one and strict action should be taken in the matter. “Very unfortunate. Strict action should be taken. This incident is terrible… Really really scary… Everything is possible everywhere. So security system, CCTV cameras should be prepared accordingly. Strict action should be taken,” the former BCCI President further added.

However, these comments for the former Indian cricketer did not rest well on the internet with a netizen slamming him for his judgement on the basis of “isolated incident”. After his words were misinterpreted, the 52-year-old has now issued a clarification. Speaking with Hindustan Times, Ganguly clarified, “Last Sunday I spoke about this. I don’t know how my statement was interpreted.”
“This is a terrible incident. The culprits should be punished in such a way that no one can do anything like this in future. The investigation is going on. I hope the culprit will be identified and punished. The way people are protesting, if this incident happened anywhere in the world this is how people would have roared,” he further added.
Moreover, the former cricketer has also changed his profile picture to black, captioning it with the hashtag “New Profile Pic”. It is to be noted that Ganguly’s intentions come in solidarity and show his support for the victim.
