On Thursday, August 27, the defending champions, Real Madrid settled for a 1-1 draw against the Las Palmas at the Gran Canaria in Spanish league. Kylian Mbappe, who has been their biggest signing in years, remained scoreless, but thanks to Vinicius Junior’s 69th minute goal that the team avoided a first league loss of the season.
Vinicius found the back of the net, which was his first league goal this season, by converting a 69th minute penalty kick after a handball from Alex Suarez. However, the visitors trailed in the first half after a fifth minute goal from Alberto Moleiro, but a 69th minute savior by the Brazilian helped them to draw another game.
Notably, it was a second draw in three La Liga outings for Real Madrid, leaving the capital club fourth in the standings, four points off arch-rivals Barcelona. On the other hand, Las Palmas is yet to win this season, having drawn against Sevilla and lost at Leganes. Moreover, Barcelona on Tuesday, became the only team with three wins in the first three rounds after a 2-1 win at Rayo Vallecano.
Things are not going well and we have to fix it: Carlo Ancelotti
Speaking in a media conference after Real Madrid 1-1 draw against Las Palmas, manager Carlo Ancelotti remained unfazed about the team’s slow start. However, he opined of having a clear strategy moving forward.
“It’s clear that we are struggling to find the soundness of last season. But we must not look for excuses. The schedule is tight and we have to recover quickly, because on Sunday we have another game,” Carlo Ancelotti said on Thursday at the press conference. “I need to have a clearer strategy, to give the players more clarity in what I want. It’s costing us more than we thought. We have to work and concentrate on the path we want to take,” he further continued.
Furthermore, on being asked about Kylian Mbappe yet to open his account after he joined the side in July this year, Ancelotti refused to comment on the individual performances of the players. Speaking at the conference, Ancelotti stated, “Our game has been slow. There is not much mobility and the strikers are receiving the ball with the opposing teams already close. When we don’t have the ball, we leave too many spaces between the lines.”
“I don’t think it’s a mental problem, because the team trains well. It’s just that sometimes you don’t find the best way to play…. Things are not going well and we have to fix it soon,” he concluded.
