Kylian Mbappe has equalled Cristiano Ronaldo's goal tally in his debut season at Real Madrid with 33 goals in all competitions. He did this by scoring twice in Real Madrid's 3-2 win against Leganes. Mbappe achieved this tally in 45 games, while Ronaldo had done so in 35 matches in the 2009-2010 season. Though the number of games played is different, Mbappe's accomplishment highlights his major contribution in his first season at the club. Looking ahead, Mbappe is just four goals behind equalling the debut season record of 37 goals for the club, which Iván Zamorano achieved in the 1992-1993 season.

There are nine La Liga games left for him, plus other competitions, to forge a new record. Reflecting on this accomplishment, Mbappe expressed his admiration for Ronaldo and the significance of equaling his record. He said, “I’m very happy to equal his goals in the first season, we know what he represents for all of us.. But the really important thing is to win trophies with Real Madrid.”

Real Madrid comeback in style in thrilling victory over Leganes

Real Madrid secured a hard-fought 3-2 win over Leganes at Santiago Bernabéu on March 29, 2025, keeping pace with La Liga leaders Barcelona. The match showcased Real's resilience, with Kylian Mbappe's brace proving decisive. Mbappe opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a composed Panenka-style penalty. However, Leganes responded immediately, as Diego Garcia leveled the score just a minute later. The visitors then stunned the Bernabeu crowd when Dani Raba put them ahead in the 41st minute.

The Galacticos regrouped after the break, with Jude Bellingham netting the equalizer in the 47th minute. The decisive moment came in the 76th minute when Mbappe curled in a brilliant free-kick, sealing the victory. The victory places Real Madrid level with Barcelona at 63 points, intensifying the La Liga title race.
