Paris Saint Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has reportedly told the officials that he wants to leave the club this summer. The Frenchman joined Parc des Princes from Monaco in 2017 and extended his contract from 2022 until 2024 but last summer declined to activate the clause that would allow him to stay another year with the club. The 25-year-old has been a long-term transfer target for Real Madrid, and as per the reports, Mbappe is already in talks with the Spanish team.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Mbappe has decided not to extend the contract further and will be a free agent in June. NDTV quoted a source close to the matter as saying, “The terms of the departure have yet to be fully agreed. It also said that the club will make an official statement “when everything is finalised in the next few months".
Real Madrid to sign Kylian Mbappe: Reports
The 25-year-old earns around $215m per year, and amidst all the talks, Spanish giants Real Madrid have been the most interested in signing the PSG star. Several reports state that Mbappe will take a pay cut to join the European champions. However, it has also been reported that he could also join Arsenal, following the footsteps of French legend Thierry Henry. Although the side couldn’t offer him more than what Madrid have offered.
Earlier, Mbappe dropped a hint on his potential exit from PSG revealing that he would exit the side on fair financial terms. He had said, “With the agreement I made with the president this summer, whatever my decision we managed to protect all the parties. And to preserve the serenity of the club for the challenges to come. Which is the most important."
