Lamine Yamal, 17, the Spanish footballing sensation, has stated that he hopes to play Finalissima against his idol Lionel Messi’s Argentina. The Finalissima is the intercontinental football match organised jointly by UEFA and CONMEBOL between the winners of the Euros and Copa America, and currently, both Spain and Argentina are in the finals of these two tournaments respectively.
During the semi-final of the UEFA Euro 2024, Lamine Yamal scored a magical goal from long range against France, which helped Spain defeat them by 2-1. With that, the Spanish football team is set to meet England in the final of the European tournament at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on Sunday, July 14.
On the other side, the semi-final of the COPA America 2024 saw Lionel Messi’s Argentina get the better of Canada in a relatively one-sided contest by 2-0. It helped the defending champions reach the final of the competition, which will be played against Colombia on Sunday, July 14, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
In the build-up to the biggest match in his international career, Lamine Yamal remarked, “I hope Messi wins the Copa América and I win the Euro's, so I can play against him in the Finalissima.”
