Lance Stroll, the Canadian racing driver, has taken to social media to announce that he will be auctioning a special edition helmet and race kit from the ongoing Canadian GP for an important cause. The 24-year-old Aston Martin driver revealed that he is looking to raise money and awareness for people affected by devastating wildfires in the state of Quebec and all across the nation of Canada.
Notably, the wildfires have been ravaging the area since the beginning of June, which has burnt down around 12 million acres of land, an area 16 times larger than normal. It has also adversely affected over 100,000 people in Canada in the past fortnight.
On June 16, Lance Stroll released a video on his official Twitter account talking about the Canadian wildfires and giving information about his auction items, to help raise money for people in strife in the country. His tweet read, “The wildfires across Quebec & Canada have been devastating. To help raise money and awareness for those affected, I’m auctioning my special edition helmet & race kit from the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix. Please see the link in my bio to bid on my race kit & help the Canadian Red Cross.”
This gesture from Aston Martin driver, comes on the heels of Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc raising USD 380,000 for the flood victims in the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy. In May of this year, the Italian GP was cancelled amidst heavy flooding in the Northern part of the country.
Meanwhile, after a string of bad results in the last three F1 Grand Prix, Lance Stroll had a very good outing at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, finishing in sixth place in the race. His father, Lawrence Stroll, the owner of Aston Martin, is looking for consistent results from his team as the F1 season goes along.
He was quoted as saying to Reuters, “Those are exactly the plans. Hopefully get two cars on the podium. I’m extremely confident. I believe the car will be very strong around the Montreal circuit, it suits our car well… so I’m really looking forward to going home and really looking forward to a great race.”
