Reigning league MVP Nikola Jokic had a dominant performance against the Los Angeles Lakers as the Denver Nuggets registered a 110-99 win on Wednesday. After that defeat, the Lakers once again suffered a defeat against the Minnesota Timberwolves to take their record to 0-5.
But ahead of their next game against Nuggets, Jokic had some words of praise for his opponents, the Lakers' superstars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the post-match press conference. Talking about the fixture, Jokic was asked about their game plan against Los Angeles. Surprisingly, the MVP praised the Lakers' All-Star duo and said they will be prioritising stopping them before anybody else.
In the press conference, Nikola Jokic said, "We were mental into the game. We know that LeBron is the best player on the planet. He has AD with him, who is probably the second-most talented player in the world. We know who the main weapons are for them."
Talking about Laker’s recent game, Anthony Edwards scored 29 points, similarly, Rudy Gobert added 22 points with 21 rebounds, and the Minnesota Timberwolves registered a 111-102 win on Friday night. Karl-Anthony Towns scored 21 points and D’Angelo Russell had 11 points as Minnesota has now won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
LeBron James scored 28 points for the Lakers which didn’t have Anthony Davis because of low back tightness. Whereas Russell Westbrook came off the bench for the first time since his rookie season and chipped in with 18 points and eight rebounds. James also created history as with his eighth field goal of the night, LeBron James registered his 1,135th career 20-point game, passing Karl Malone for the most such games in NBA history.
