Mercedes racer Lewis Hamilton once again downplayed Max Verstappen's record of the most successive wins in Formula One. Hamilton claimed that he had to race against 'strong teammates', while this wasn't the case with Verstappen. However, the Dutch didn't hold back and hit back with a savage reply. Notably, at the recently concluded Italian Grand Prix, the Dutch racer won the 10th consecutive race win and set up a new record.
Nonetheless, a day earlier to the race, Hamilton raised many eyebrows with his claim that he has stronger teammates than the 25-year-old has ever had. Not only this, but Hamilton also said that the media has overblown his success and added that he wasn't happy with the Dutch's performance as with previous dominant names in the sport.
However, the Dutch hit back at the Briton and said that the 38-year-old is jealous of him as he overtook Carlos Sainz's record of winning nine consecutive races. Hamilton was addressing the media, and as per RacingNews365 quoted him as saying, "Maybe he's a little jealous of my current success."
Hamilton added, "This kind of statement... he possibly thinks he's winning something with that, but it makes no difference to me. I think Mercedes have a very hard time dealing with losing, after all these years of winning so much."
Speaking of their individual records, in the last two years, Verstappen won 27 of the 36 grand prix, and in his last 25 performances, he only failed four times. On the other hand, Hamilton hasn't won a race since 2021.
