The Argentina team led by Paris Saint Germain forward Lionel Messi is considered to be one of the favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. They have been undefeated for over three years, thanks to brilliant team spirit and understanding. These intangibles have also helped them win the Copa América trophy.
So ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, the La Albiceleste showed off this team bond as they decided to stay in the student quarters of Qatar University in Doha instead of their allotted five-star hotel. One of the key reasons behind the decision was a barbeque.
Yes, the Argentine players want to have a special team barbeque where they can prepare asados, a traditional meat-based dish from back home. Hence they opted for the student quarters in Doha, where a special asado chef from Argentina will cook for the team.
The reports regarding the decision were confirmed by a source from the Argentina Football Association to MailOnline. The source said, “We visited the campus several times and chose it because it has great facilities and open-air space for asados. This is very important to the players and Argentines in general, it’s part of our culture. We want to make them feel at home while they are in Qatar and the best way to do this is to make sure that they get a taste of home while focusing on the football.”
He added, “You could say other teams have opted to stay in more luxurious accommodation, but our team is the best in the world which also deserves the best beef. Our focus is to win the World Cup, not the quality of the hotel we are staying in.”
Argentina will start their World Cup campaign on November 22 against Group C opponents Saudi Arabia. Then they will face Mexico on November 27. Later their last Group C fixture is scheduled for December 1, against Poland.
