Lionel Messi returned to training ahead of Argentina’s Copa America 2024 quarter-final clash against Ecuador, which will be played at the NRG Stadium in Houston, on Thursday July 4. The Argentinian captain got injured during his side’s 1-0 win in their second Group A match versus Chile, following which he had to sit out their 2-0 victory against Peru.
As per the Argentinian football federation, Lionel Messi did some kinesiology work before the training session, and he was involved with the rest of the group afterwards. With that, it is likely that he starts the upcoming Copa America 2024 quarter-final clash against Ecuador at the NRG Stadium in Houston in a couple of day’s time.
After missing the previous match against Peru and failing to score against Canada and Chile, Lionel Messi is yet to add to his goal tally in the Copa America 2024. With that, it was the first-time in his career that the 37-year-old missed out on scoring in group stages of an international tournament.
Walter Samuel, the Assistant Coach of the Argentinian football team said the following about Lionel Messi’s injury, “He was in the locker room, we noticed him better. The situation is improving but it's a few days and the situation is premature to talk about. We'll talk about it on a day-to-day basis with him, and talk to the doctors.”
“Leo is fine, he's recovering, we hope he will be ready for the next game. Today's victory is for him,” Angel Di Maria remarked.
