The ever-ongoing Lionel Messi contract saga is finally coming to an end with reports emerging that FC Barcelona captain is set to sign a contract extension with the Catalan club. With the negotiations going on between the player and the club for quite a long time, the fans have been fearing that Messi could be on his way out of the club in a sensational turn of events.

However, all those speculations have now been put to rest as both the parties have now revealed that they are confident that a final agreement will be reached very soon with the official announcement expected next week.

Details about the new contract

Lionel Messi is expected to sign a 2-year contract extension in a deal which will keep him at Camp Nou until June 2023 at least. As per reports, the club will have to keep aside a remarkable amount of €200million from their annual wage budget to accommodate Messi’s new mega deal.

There are discussions going on around various other clauses of the contract as well which has delayed the announcement. Notably, Messi has had a €700 million release clause, which was added in his contract in 2017 and could still be a part of the contract which will ensure that no club can buy him for next two years at least.

With his current contract expiring on June 30, both the parties are chalking out the final details and an official announcement is expected to take place next week. Messi is currently on national duty with Argentina at the Copa America. The six-time Ballon d'Or winner has been enjoying an excellent Copa América as he been in sublime form of late. With one goal and one assist, Messi has propelled Argentina to top of Group A.
