Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer (MLS) team, featuring Lionel Messi, has been named as the latest addition to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, which will be held in the USA from 15 June to July 3 next year. The American club were awarded a place in the expanded 32-team tournament after they won the MLS Supporters’ Shield 2024, which is given to the club with the best position in the regular season of the league.
Notably, in the expanded version of the FIFA Club World Cup next year, there will be 12 teams from Europe, six teams from South America, apart from 12 teams from Asia, Africa, and North America continents combined, while the remaining two places will be given one club from Oceania, and one club from host nation, which in the USA. After setting a new record for most MLS points (74) in a single regular season in 2024 following 34 matches, Inter Miami have made it through to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.

The President of FIFA, Gianni Infantino, made the announcement about Inter Miami’s inclusion in the FIFA Club World Cup next year after they defeated New England 6-2 with the help of Lionel Messi’s second half hat-trick. He was quoted as saying at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, as per Eurosport, “We all know how Miami is in love with football and how Inter Miami is supported from across Florida and beyond for your exciting brand of football.”
“Congratulations on your wonderful 2024 Supporters’ Shield success. You have shown that in the United States, you are consistently the best club on the field of play. “Therefore, I am proud to announce that as one of the best clubs in the world, you are deserved participants in the new FIFA Club World Cup 2025 as the host club representing the United States,” Gianni Infantino further added.
At the same time, the FIFA official also confirmed that Inter Miami will be playing the inaugural match of the FIFA Club World Cup at the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
