On Saturday, February 22, the England cricket team made history by registering the highest team total in Champions Trophy history during a Group B clash in the 2025 edition against old enemy Australia, at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. With the help of Ben Duckett’s highest individual score of 165 runs in the tournament history, England posted 351/6 on the board, surpassing the previous best score of 347/4 from New Zealand against the USA at The Oval in London in 2004.
After being put into bat first by Australian captain Steve Smith, England lost a couple of early wickets in the first power play stage before Ben Duckett and Joe Root shared a 158-run stand for the third wicket. Following the dismissal of Root for 68 runs in 78 balls, Duckett got past his third hundred in ODI cricket, and continued to pulverise the Australian bowling attack.
Ultimately, Ben Duckett registered the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history before his dismissal on 165 runs in 143 balls with 17 fours and three maximums. Following that, a few lusty blows from the lower order from England ensured that they got past the 350-run mark against Australia, becoming the first team to achieve this feat in tournament history.

With such a monumental target of 352 runs in front of Australia, it will be quite difficult for the two-time Champions Trophy winners to register their first win in the competition since 2009. Back then, Australia had successfully defended their title in a final against New Zealand, which was played in South Africa.
