The Lucknow Super Giants got back to winning ways after edging out Mumbai Indians in a low-scoring thriller at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. LSG clinched the game by a four-wicket margin as they chased down the 145-run target in the last over of the game. With this victory, Lucknow have jumped to the third spot while Mumbai are still languishing at the ninth spot on the table.
Coming back to the game, MI lost the toss and was asked to bat first by Lucknow, who had a blistering start with the new ball. In mere minutes, MI lost two Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav cheaply and kicked off a collapse. Soon Mumbai lost Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya before Kishan and Nehal Wadhera tried rescuing the innings but struggled.
The duo took MI to 80 before Wadhera along with Tim David ensured the five-time champions managed to score 144 in 20 overs. For LSG, five out of their six bowlers took wickets with Moshin Khan ending up with two scalps. In the second innings, Lucknow also lost an early wicket before KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis got the chase back on track.
From this point forward, MI managed to pick up wickets but with close to no scoreboard pressure, LSG held its nerve and finished off the game in the final over. Stoinis top-scored with a 45-ball 62 with seven fours and two sixes. Whereas, Pandya was the pick of the bowlers with his 2-26.
