In a tragic turn of events, Malaysian national footballer, Faisal 'Mickey' Halim fell victim to an acid attack at a shopping mall over the weekend. The incident occurred in  Petaling Jaya district outside the capital Kuala Lumpur, according to Najwan Halimi, a sports official in Selangor state. 

In the aftermath of this attack, Halim suffered second-degree burns on the neck, shoulder, hands and chest. Talking about the incident, a source close to the 26-year-old revealed that  Faisal Halim was at a go-kart circuit in Klang Valley when he was attacked.

The source,  as per Malaysian news outlet The Star,  shared that Halim was attacked by some men, who poured acid on him. Further,  Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan revealed on private television station Astro Awani that a male suspect had been arrested, though he did not disclose a motive.

Later Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the football player was stable. "We received information from the public at 5.51 pm that a national footballer was splashed with liquid believed to be acid when he was at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara," he said in a statement on Sunday (May 5).

Faisal 'Mickey' Halim's team  Selangor FC released a statement expressing that the club will work with the authorities to identify those who have committed the crime. The statement said, " We are sorry to inform you that Selangor FC player, Faisal Halim has been the victim of an acid attack this afternoon."

"Selangor FC takes this matter seriously and will work with PDRM and the authorities to carry out a detailed investigation to identify those involved.  Selangor FC calls on supporters and football fans nationwide to pray and give moral support to Faisal Halim and his family and to respect his and his family's privacy at this time,"  Selangor FC concluded.
