Rohit Sharma-led Team India is taking on Bangladesh in their Champions Trophy 2025 opener at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. For the unversed, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto-led won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 228 runs in 49.4 overs.
While the Indian team dominated in the initial stage of the match, dismissing half of the Bangladesh side inside the first powerplay, the Indian bowlers came back into the game in the last few overs to bundled out the Bangla Tigers. For the Rohit Sharma-led side, star pacer Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers, bagging a fifer, he also etched several feats during his 10-over spell.
Mohammed Shami surpasses Mitchell Starc to reach to 200 ODI wickets
The senior Indian bowler broke all-time record for the fastest bowler to 200 wickets in men’s ODIs, Shami surpassed Australia’s Mitchell Starc in terms of number of deliveries bowled to get to 200 wickets in the fifty over format. In another notable feat, Shami sits at second place after Starc to get to the milestone in terms of matches.
Seeing Shami etch new records, fans flooded social media, hailing him as the “man to go to in ODI tournaments”. A few others also called him the “game changer for India in ICC tournaments”.

It is to be noted that Shami also broke Ajit Agarkar’s record to become fastest Indian bowler to 200 ODI wickets. While Agarkar got to the milestone in 133 matches in 2004, Shami got to the landmark when he picked his third wicket of the innings as he ended the 154-run stand between Jaker Ali and Towid Hridoy.
