English Premier League club Manchester City has reported a club-record revenue of £613m. With this revenue, Man City has record profits of £41.73m for the 2021-22 season. This is also the second-highest revenue recorded by an English club in history after Manchester United's £627m in 2019.
In the 2021-22 season City won their sixth Premier League since the 2008 takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group. Manchester City's revenue jumped up to £43.2m in the previous year, when the majority of games were played without the presence of crowds because of the C oronavirus pandemic.
Addressing the club’s record revenue, club chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak praised the team’s efforts and talked about how, since the takeover, the entire organisation has been setting and achieving difficult targets to create one of the biggest clubs in the world.
He said, "In 2008, we gave ourselves the target of exceeding the benchmarks that had been set by others within football; and in doing so, to also exceed the new standards we believed leading clubs would achieve in the time it would take us to catch up. Our aim was clear - to one day be the club that set the benchmark for others. The statistics and results show that in many ways we are beginning to achieve our long-term ambition."
The financial results were recorded from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022. Man City shows a profit of £67.6m on player sales, which skyrockets the revenue of the club from transfers to £250m over the last five years.
Manchester City also claims that the club has made a profit of approximately £35m on transfers agreed after the reporting date, which includes the signings of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips, Manuel Akanji, Stefano Ortega and Sergio Gomez and the sale of 17 players including Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Raheem Sterling.
