On Saturday, August 10, Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Dutch defender Mathijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich in a move worth £42.9 million. In a separate deal with the German club, Manchester United have also agreed to bring in right-back Noussair Mazraoui for £16 million, but the move is subject to Aaron Wan-Bissaka joining West Ham United.
As per the report from David Ornstein of The Athletic, Mathijs de Ligt is expected to undergo his medical before signing a five-year contract with Manchester United, with an option to extend it by 12 months. The Red Devils will be paying £38.6 million to Bayern Munich for the Dutchman plus £4.3 million in add-ons.
For Mathijs de Ligt to make his Premier League debut with Manchester United on the opening day of the 2024-25 season, the move is needed to be registered by mid-day on Thursday, August 15. The 20-time Premier League champions will start their campaign on Friday, August 16, against Fulham at Old Trafford.
In his two seasons at Bayern Munich, Mathijs de Ligt played 73 matches, scoring five goals, but the lack of regular first team starts in recent months prompted his move to Manchester United. The Dutch defender has already played under Erik ten Hag with Ajax, winning the Eredivisie in 2019.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have agreed to pay £12 million plus £4 million in bonuses to Bayern Munich for right-back Noussair Mazraoui. Although the deal is expected to go through only once Aaron Wan-Bissaka moves to West Ham United, which is expected to be announced quite soon.
