Bayern Munich's goalkeeper, Manuel Neuer, has encountered a setback in his recovery from a calf injury. The 38-year-old initially suffered a torn muscle fiber in his right calf during the Champions League round of 16 first leg against Bayer Leverkusen on March 5, 2025. He had begun recovery training but has now had to pause due to a reaction in the calf muscle. It is reported that during Friday's training session, Manuel Neuer experienced a setback in his recovery. After completing his warm-up, he participated in several catching drills, most of which were performed while seated.
However, he was unexpectedly forced to end his session about 10 minutes earlier than planned due to a calf reaction. Neuer, who has been out of action since March 6, has already missed three games for Bayern Munich and might miss a couple of more games for the Bavarians. One of the main concerns that this raises is Neuer’s availability for the quarter-final clash in the Champions League against Inter Milan.
Both of Bayern’s goalkeepers are dealing with injuries
FC Bayern are set to play FC St. Pauli on March 29 after the end of the international break before facing Augsburg. After these domestic games, they will play an all-important Champions League quarter-final tie against Inter Milan. Neuer had been aiming to return to team training the following week and make his comeback against St. Pauli after the international break, but his availability for the match is now uncertain. Meanwhile, Jonas Urbig, Bayern’s backup goalie, who is dealing with a foot injury, is expected to rejoin training in roughly a week, though it remains unclear if he will be fit in time for the St. Pauli game.
Manuel Neuer has been at Bayern Munich for almost 14 years after making a move from Schalke FC in 2011. Having established himself as one of best goalkeepers in the world, Neuer has played a total of 554 games with Bayern, maintaining 262 clean sheets in the process. He has won the league title 11 times and has two Champions League titles to his name with the Bavarians.
