After winning UEFA Euro 2024, Spanish full-back Marc Cucurella hit back at former Manchester United star and football pundit Gary Neville for his comments during the group stage of the continental tournament. Cucurella was pivotal in La Roja's historic fourth European Championship as Luis de la Fuente's men took down England 2-1 in the final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
Like the performance in the finale, Spain dominated the tournament as they went undefeated and conceded only four goals in seven games while becoming the first team in European Championship history to score 15 goals in a single tournament.
We went all the way: Cucurella to Gary Neville after Euro win
During the group stage of the tournament, Gary Neville stated, “He’s not been convincing at Chelsea. He’s played a few games towards the end of the season. He’s aggressive, he’s tenacious, he’s a busy little fullback [but] the price tag still astounds everyone to this day.
"The Spanish defence, it’s got a lot of experience now but there’s something just missing from Spain that makes you feel like they’re not going to go all the way. I have to say that him being at left-back is a good example of why we think that." But after winning the Euro, Cucurella shared this quote on Instagram and wrote "We went all the way, Gary. Thank you for your support."
For me, they are the best in the world: Luis de la Fuente
Spain manager Luis de la Fuente was elated with his team's victory and called La Rajo the best in the world. L a Fuente said, "I couldn't be happier. A real team, European champions. I said I was proud and today I am even prouder. It confirms what we are. For me, they are the best in the world."
