The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday, July 17 named changes to their Playing XI for the second Test of the three-match Test series. The Ben Stokes-led side, who currently lead the series 1-0 after registering a comprehensive win by an inning and 114 runs, have called in mark Wood as James Anderson’s replacement.
Notably, Anderson, who had earlier confirmed that the first Test of the series will be his last for the Three Lions as he calls down curtains being the only pacer to cross the 700-wicket mark. However, the remainder of lineup remains the same as the opening Test, only Durham speedster, Mark Wood has been added to the lineup.
Wood has taken 108 wickets in his 34 Test appearances and marks his return after last playing in India, earlier this year. The second Test is set to be played at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham from July 18 till July 22.

Speaking of the first Test which was played at the Lord’s in London, England won the toss and invited the visitors, West Indies to bat first. The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side were bundled out for 121 in 41. 4 overs, courtesy Gus Atkinson’s seven wickets from 12 overs. The hosts then posted a formidable lead, scoring 371 runs in 90 overs and eventually dismissed the Windies at the score of 136, ending the Test withing three days.
While Anderson called curtains to his 20-year-old long career, Gus Atkinson’s lifted the Player of Match award for completing 12 wickets and helping the side win by an inning and 114 runs.
