Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood and his partner Harriet Robson announced the happy news of the birth of their first child on Tuesday. However, the footballer shared the news on his Instagram handle on Friday with an adorable shot of the baby's hand gripping his finger. Since January 2022, this was the first post on the app by Greenwood.

The announcement comes as Greenwood waits for the club's decision regarding his status as a player. A decision must be made prior to the start of the current Premier League season. On Friday, the picture received more than 50,000 likes in less than 10 minutes, and the England international has 2.7 million Instagram followers.

On his Instagram page, he uploaded a black-and-white image of three hands: his, his girlfriend Harriet Robson's, and the infant's little hand. Greenwood also stated that his first child, their baby, was born earlier this week on July 11. The major announcement follows the 21-year-old star's year-long absence from social media, as his football career hangs in uncertainty.

The forward was charged with attempted rape, using coercive behaviour, and assault, and hasn't played for the team since January of 2022. In a statement released in February, police said that Greenwood "no longer faces criminal proceedings" and that the Crown Prosecution Service had abandoned the case.

After graduating from the club's junior academy, Greenwood made 129 appearances for the senior team, scoring 35 goals although his future was uncertain. "I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones, and friends for their support," Greenwood said in a statement after the charges were dismissed.

Although the 21-year-old is rumoured to be leaving United, neither a transfer nor a loan move for former England international has taken place as of yet. With Atalanta, Roma, and Juventus all expressing interest in the player, a move to the Serie A seems to be the most likely result.
