With the ODI World Cup 2023 set to be played in October-November 2023 in India, all teams are eyeing to put their best 15 on the field. With less than two months left to the start of the tournament, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden picked that one Indian player to play for his country.

During the recently concluded CEAT Awards event, the former Australian cricketer was asked to pick one cricketer from the current Indian team who he would have liked to play for Australia in the upcoming marquee event. What was shocking is that he snubbed Virat Kohli from his choice of pick.

Hayden, who was the highest run-getter in 2007 ODI World Cup, said that he would steal Jasprit Bumrah from the current crop of players. “Jasprit Bumrah is the one player from the Indian team who I wish play for Australia in the World Cup,” Hayden said during the CEAT event on Monday.

Jasprit Bumrah returned to competitive action last week in Ireland vs India 1st T20I. The Indian spearhead, who was the leading wicket-taker in the 2019 edition of the Cricket World Cup has also been named in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023. He is currently leading the Men in Blue in the three-match T20I series, underway in Dublin, having already clinched the series 2-0 with a match still to be played.

Matthew Hayden picks Tilak Varma as next big thing in Indian cricket

The former Australia opening batter Matthew Hayden also spoke about the young cricketing sensation Tilak Varma. The 51-year-old has picked Tilak Varma as the next big thing in the Indian cricket. It is to be noted that Varma, who made his India debut in the five-match T20I series against West Indies recently, has also been named in the 17-member Asia Cup squad.
