Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal turned out to be the lone warrior for his side in their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 clash. On Thursday, December 26, Karnataka were up against Punjab in the round three match-up of the elite domestic tournament. In the game, Mayank went all out and remained unbeaten on 139 and led his side to a close 1-wicket win over their counterparts. Batting first Punjab posted 247 runs for 10 wickets in 49.2 overs, and in return, when Karnataka saw a batting collapse, Agarwal took steering in his hands and hit 17 boundaries with three maximums to record his 15th List A century and guide the side to a close win.
During their chase, Karnataka got off to a decent start, however, it wasn’t too late when they were reduced to 84/4. After building a 50-run stand with Nikin Jose, Mayank built a 67-run stand with Shreyas Gopal, but it didn’t turn out to be enough as Punjab kept dismissing players. At one stage, Karnataka were 203 for nine but Mayank held nerves and heroically guided the side to a crucial win.
