McLaren has launched a special livery for the Monaco Grand Prix 2024 on May 21, Tuesday. The team in collaboration with OKX and Senna Brand, McLaren announced their bespoke one-off Ayrton Senna-inspired livery for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. The specially customised vehicles have taken inspiration from Senna’s iconic helmet and are designed to celebrate the Brazilian’s legacy. Senna, the three-time world champion is McLaren’s most successful driver.
He raced for the British operation between 1988 and 1993, when he secured 35 Grand Prix wins, three drivers’ titles and four constructors’ championships. The Brazilian passed away 30 years ago and won six times in the Principality, which included five consecutive times from 1089. The race will be held a week later the date that saw Senna and Austrian Roland Ratzenberger’s fatal accidents at the track.
The bespoke livery is in yellow, green and blue colours and is hand-painted by McLaren Special Operations. Not only this, but the livery also has dot matrix portraits of Senna. The weekend will also see the McLaren team wearing a Senna-inspired team kit, while Norris and Piastri will be seen in customised overalls. The Monaco Grand Prix 2024 is scheduled to take place from May 24 to 26 at the Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo.
Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing said, “The team is proud to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary life and racing legacy of Ayrton Senna through this McLaren livery. Senna remains revered and respected as Formula 1’s greatest icon, and McLaren’s most decorated driver. His impact on McLaren is enormous, not only through his racing record but also his presence within the team, and now his legacy, so it’s an honour to race for him at his most successful circuit in his green, yellow and blue colours.”
