On May 23, McLaren revealed its Triple Crown livery for the upcoming two F1 races on the calendar. The MCL60 cars driven by Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris will have a special colour scheme to mark the team’s successes at the Monaco GP, Indianapolis 500, and Le Mans 24 Hours, which is known together as the Triple Crown in motorsport.
The new look car from McLaren will feature for the first-time at the Circuit de Monaco as part of the Monaco GP this weekend. And the special colour scheme will remain on the car when F1 moves to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the Spanish GP the following weekend.
The rear end of the MCL60 car will have a usual papaya look to celebrate the team’s first Indianapolis 500 win achieved by Johnny Rutherford in 1974. The centre is called as the sharp ice white, to pay tribute to Alan Prost’s win in 1984 at the Monaco GP. The front end of the car is black in colour, to remember the Le Mans 24 Hours win for the team in their first attempt in 1995 with JJ Lehto, Masanori Sekiya, and Yannick Dalmas.
The McLaren CEO Zak Brown talked about the Triple Crown livery and said, “Having achieved the greatest accomplishment in motorsport by completing the Triple Crown, we are proud to celebrate the rich history of McLaren Racing with a special livery at the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix.”
“In line with our 60th anniversary celebrations and honouring the legacy of Bruce McLaren, the unique livery pays homage to the three victories which form the Triple Crown accolade,” added Brown.
Meanwhile, McLaren will take part in the upcoming Monaco GP after a very disappointing start to their 2023 F1 campaign. The team has collected only 14 points in the first five races of the season, which is something they will look to improve, as early as this weekend.
